The project

Brianza Design District is the first project carried out by the Brianza Experience network and has as its objective the promotion of a culture of production and manufacturing in the field of industrial and interior design by rationalizing the elements of greatest interest on the plane of production and culture. The idea was to make the most of the region’s assets by putting them on display and making them available to the markets of reference on the occasion of the 2015 Expo and beyond. In August 2014 the network of Brianza Experience, made up of ten towns and cities (Cabiate, Cantù, Carugo, Figino Serenza, Giussano, Lentate sul Seveso, Lissone, Mariano Comense, Meda and Sovico), came together to take part in the ‘Meet Brianza Expo’ project, promoted by the Province of Monza and Brianza, the lead body, in collaboration with the Monza and Brianza Chamber of Commerce and the STER (Local Headquarters of the Lombardy Region). The local authorities’ involvement of the research groups run by ALTIS’s City Innovation Lab at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan and by POLI.Design, a consortium set up by Milan Polytechnic, has led to the launch of Brianza Experience’s first regional project: the Brianza Design District.

The aim of the project is to delineate and promote an ample range of tourist services and facilities in view of Expo 2015, as well as to leave a lasting mark on the region. It offers visitors an opportunity to experience at first-hand the production chain linked to furniture design and to meet the skilled manufacturers that represent the ‘distinctive local know-how’.

Why Brianza?

Brianza is a region with a strong bent for production. Internationally renowned designers and manufacturers who have had the possibility of working with the district say that the region’s entrepreneurs are ‘problem-solvers’, with ‘the right capacities at the right moment’ and a ‘unique sophistication’.
